NH’s Please Respond to this One Time TNA to CNA HERDS Survey

NYSHFA is working with the DOH on this TNA to CNA transitional program. It is critical to respond to this survey so progression of this transition program can occur.

In accordance with CMS guidance QSO-21-17-NH, the Department of Health is evaluating how temporary nurse aides (TNAs) may be able to use some of their time working in nursing facilities during the Federal COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) to become certified as nurse aides (CNAs). For education and planning purposes, it is important to collect the actual number of TNAs employed in nursing facilities throughout the State.

The purpose of the TNA to CNA HERDS survey is two-fold:

  • to determine the universe of TNAs in order ensure adequate testing sites for CNA certification are available.
  • to determine the specific training the TNAs may have taken during the PHE in order to fill in the educational gaps as we advocate for flexibilities in training.

The DOH is requesting all nursing homes complete this HERDS survey by close of business on July 15, 2021.

Inquiries related to this HERDS survey may be referred to:  covidnursinghomeinfo@health.ny.gov.
