NYSHFA Members Participate in Legislative Visitation Day

On February 27-28, NYSHFA members from across the state traveled to Albany to meet with legislators to request a 20% Medicaid reimbursement rate increase to make up for 15 years of disinvestment in the State’s long-term care system. Legislators were overwhelmingly supportive and voiced concern over the sustainability and viability of a system that is on the verge of collapse. NYSHFA remains confident that, through continued dialogue with legislative leadership, we can make up for over 15 years of disinvestment by the prior administration.

NYSHFA members also voiced their support for a temporary pilot program for the certification of medication aides, a proposal set forth in the Governor’s 2023-24 Executive Budget. Over 30 states allow for the use of medication aides in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Currently in New York, medication aides are only authorized to dispense pre-filled medications in the assisted living setting.
