DAL DACF 25-15: Mitigating Risks of Water Damage and Mold Growth
The Department of Health released the attached DAL DACF 25-15: Mitigating Risks of Water Damage and Mold Growth on February 7, 2025. Mold thrives in moisture, so facilities must identify and control leaks, condensation, and poor ventilation. Regular inspections of high-risk areas (bathrooms, basements, behind appliances) for odors, discoloration, or peeling paint help detect issues early.
To prevent mold, moisture problems must be fixed, and immediate cleaning, drying, and repairs should be done. Under NYCRR 487.11(k), the DOH mandates corrective action for water damage found during inspections, including hiring a contractor for major repairs.
Routine monitoring, quick repairs, and staff-resident communication help maintain a safe, mold-free environment for all.
