CMS- iQIES Implementation

Beginning in May 2021, State Survey Agencies and CMS locations began a phased transition to the Internet Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (iQIES), which is an internet-based system that includes survey and certification functions. iQIES consolidated and replaced functionality from the QIES, CASPER and ASPEN legacy systems.

NYSHFA attended a recent CMS call where the new iQIES system implementation was announced. The notes below are from that call. NYSHFA & AHCA will be sending out information and updates as it becomes available. Providers are encouraged to view the iQIES help page https://iqies.cms.gov/help which offers a video catalog with links demonstrating how to sign up, a quick start check list, and a guide to managing user information. As noted during the call, the launch of the iQIES will be part of the CMS Regions. NYS is located in Region 2 and will be the first for onboarding. CMS will be available to answer questions through the Center for Clinical Standards & Quality (CCSQ) Support Central number and email included at the bottom of this page.

  • MDS transition to iQIES-transitioning MDS which will take place early 2023.
  • Providers will need new user ID.
  • May require manual completion of process.
  • Every provider will need to appoint one security official-CMS recommends 2.
  • Security officials will approve all roles for the facility to get into the system.
  • CMS has training videos and guides.
  • Onboarding starts August 15th, 2022.
  • Launch plan broken out by region.
