Discontinue Use of Ciprofloxacin for Invasive Meningococcal Disease Post-Exposure Prophylaxis
The Department of Health issued the attached Health Advisory on August 14, 2024 – Discontinue Use of Ciprofloxacin for Invasive Meningococcal Disease Post-Exposure Prophylaxis.
Due to increasing resistance, NYSDOH and NYCDOH are recommending that health care providers discontinue the use of ciprofloxacin as post-exposure prophylaxis for close contacts of patients with invasive meningococcal disease in New York. Prescribe rifampin or ceftriaxone as post-exposure prophylaxis instead.
