New Education Program Available: AI & Clinical Practice

We are pleased to share that a new AI & Clinical Practice education program is now available on ahcancalED, the learning platform of American Health Care Association (AHCA).

Developed by the AHCA Clinical Practice Committee, this program is designed to help long term care providers better understand how artificial intelligence (AI) is currently being used in clinical settings, as well as the potential benefits, risks, and considerations associated with this rapidly advancing technology.

What the Program Covers

AI is transforming many industries—including skilled nursing and long-term care—by enabling computers and systems to perform tasks that traditionally required human intelligence. This education program consists of five self-paced modules that may be completed individually or together as a comprehensive learning experience.

Participants will explore:

  • The history and evolution of AI
  • Key types of artificial intelligence
  • Current applications of AI in healthcare
  • Emerging capabilities and how they may support clinical practice in the future

Types of AI Explained

For the purposes of this program, AI is categorized into four main types, each building on the one before it:

  1. Basic AI
  2. Machine Learning
  3. Deep Learning
  4. Generative AI

Understanding these distinctions helps providers better evaluate how AI tools may be used responsibly and effectively in long-term care environments.

Registration & Support

  • Registration is free for AHCA/NCAL members on the Education Portal
  • Questions about the program content may be sent to regulatory@ahca.org
  • Technical assistance is available at educate@ahca.org

We encourage members to take advantage of this timely and informative program to stay informed about AI’s growing role in clinical practice and long-term care.
