Suicide Prevention Lifeline & Disaster Distress Helpline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which can be accessed by dialing “988”. To learn more about 988, visit https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/988/faqs. Please note disaster survivors & responders across the country can continue to receive specialized crisis & emotional support via the Disaster Distress Helpline 1-800-985-5990, a sub-network of the Lifeline also funded by SAMHSA and administered by Vibrant.
The Disaster Distress Helpline’s (DDH) Online Peer Support Communities is a national, peer focused program that provides free support services to individuals who have experienced a natural or human-caused disaster. Peers have an opportunity to come together for mutual aid, to share trusted resources, and to help one another continue to heal from the effects of a traumatic event. The program is offered online via Facebook Groups, and is monitored 24/7/365 by a dedicated crisis center to provide support to members who may be experiencing emotional distress.
The DDH, having a greater understanding of the impact disasters have on individuals and communities, created a dedicated Online Peer Support Community for healthcare workers who are coping with the long-term aftermath of a worldwide pandemic.
