Resources for Potential Active Shooter Event

Emergencies involving an active shooter in your building are fluid, unpredictable, and quickly evolving situations that can lead to loss of life and injury.  Long-Term Care facilities face a unique set of challenges in an active shooter incident including varying levels of managing resident mobility, handling resident special needs, allocation of resources, and other unique characteristics within the Long-Term Care environment.  All facilities should have comprehensive emergency management plans (i.e., CEMP) in place that address how your facility would handle an active shooter in or near your building: how staff would respond and what actions would you take to protect the residents, staff and families inside your building(s).

NYSHFA|NYSCAL has provided the following resources to assist facilities in reviewing and updating their policies and procedures in response to a potential active shooter event.
