An Update from the AHCA Board Chair

We all know firsthand that the last three years have been a uniquely challenging time for the long term care profession. I believe we can also agree that the support of AHCA/NCAL has been invaluable during this time. Whether sharing the latest updates from HHS and CMS, advocating for our interests on Capitol Hill or providing one-on-one support to members, we are fortunate to have the team at AHCA/NCAL working for all of us and keeping us united as a profession.

I am pleased to share on behalf of the AHCA Board of Governors that Mark Parkinson has agreed to remain as President and CEO past 2023. Mark’s vision and leadership inspires us all. He has been a visible presence for long term care during the pandemic. Mark has been a visible presence in the media during his tenure at AHCA/NCAL but even more in the last three years. He advocated tirelessly that public health officials prioritize long term care providers for resources.

This year, Mark led the successful effort by AHCA/NCAL and our members to send more than 7,000 letters to CMS to advocate for reversal of a proposed Medicare cut to nursing homes. Where others see challenges, he finds opportunities. Together with our members, Mark’s leadership will provide additional stability to our residents, families and staff over the next two years as we begin to navigate a post-pandemic world.

With Mark’s experienced leadership and the exceptional team at AHCA/NCAL, we are confident that our profession will continue to be an effective voice for all providers in D.C. and around the country.
