In Memoriam: Randy Gerlach
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Randy Gerlach on September 10, 2022. Randy was serving as Immediate Past Chair of the Board at the time of his passing. He was a longtime friend and tireless supporter of the NYSHFA | NYSCAL.
Randy had over 30 years of experience in healthcare management and nursing home operations throughout New York and most recently in Western New York. He was the President and CEO of Schofield Care and was a dedicated member of our Association. He was the former Chair of NYSHFA | NYSCAL, serving on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as the Nominating and CARE Committees. He also served as the Western Buffalo Region Past President and in 2018 was chosen by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a future leader in long term and post-acute care (LTPAC).
Earlier in Randy’s career he was a very active Associate Member who always participated in our trade shows and other events.
Randy’s leadership style was exemplified in his most recent address to our membership upon being elected as Chair of the Board of Directors, Randy said, “You must remember one thing, the greatness of our industry is measured by the compassion and empathy displayed by you, each and every day to those residents and families that we serve.”

As you will see, calling hours are this Tuesday, September 13th from 2 – 8 pm at the Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Rd., Williamsville. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 14th at 10:00 AM at the UB Newman Center, 495 Skinnersville Rd., Amherst, NY.
