Updated Guidance for Emergency Preparedness-Appendix Z of the State Operations Manual (SOM)

CMS released updated guidance for surveyors related to emergency preparedness requirements on Friday, March 26, incorporating changes to the rules in recent years and lessons learned from the pandemic. The guidance within the SOM Appendix Z has now been updated to reflect the revisions made within this Final Rule. A few of the sections were revised based on the Burden Reduction Final Rule such as, guidance related to training and the expansion of acceptable testing exercises, as well as clarifying expectations surrounding documentation of the emergency program.
