2022 NYSCAL Update from the President

As another year ends, I want to say thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have shown throughout this year. While it was a tough one, we got through it together and we will be ready to take on the challenges of 2022 at your side. I would also like to let you know that Kim Laviolette will be leaving the Association on December 31st to take a position with Tarrytown ExpoCare Pharmacy where she will be the Regional Sales Director for NYS. Kim will be selling pharmacy vending robots to the DD market. We wish her well in her new endeavor though we are saddened to see her go.

NYSCAL has many exciting things planned for 2022. We are planning several educational webinars on CHRC, e-FINDS, behavioral issues (unsafe smoking in the room, hoarding, etc.). In addition, NYSCAL will be conducting training for new Administrators (this is also a refresher with best practices for seasoned Administrators), and all the other disciplines such as Case Management, Food Director, Maintenance Director as well as other trainings that will prove very helpful to your facility. In addition, NYSHFA|NYSCAL will be working on a “Risk and Response” document that will address emergency preparedness risks that facilities face as well as the way to respond to these risks – such as Cyber Security, evacuation, community threats (active shooter, riots, etc.) and biohazard emergencies such as propane or chemical spills.

Linda O’Connell will be providing support to NYSCAL members until a replacement for Kim can be found. You can reach her at (518) 462-4800, extension 13 or by emailing her at loconnell@nyshfa-nyscal.org with any concerns, questions or issues. We look forward to working with you in the upcoming year.
