The NYSHFA | NYSCAL Annual Conference will take place on May 9-11 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona NY. The Conference will feature important educational programming for our Assisted Living attendees throughout the three-day conference.
New this year is NYSCAL Day, where the entire day will feature an outstanding lineup of national and state speakers who are experts in the profession. Opening Keynote:
Dr. Nirav R. Shah presenting the keynote address, What’s New and Next? A view from Silicon Valley. Dr Shah is a Senior Scholar with the Stanford University Department of Medicine and was the Former NYS Health Commissioner.
Panel Discussion:
LaShuan Bethea, Executive Director for the National Center for Assisted Living, Washington, DC; Kelly Ann Anderson, NYS Department of Health Director of the Division of Adult Care Facility and Assisted Living Surveillance; and Nora O’Brien from Willow Towers & Willow Gardens Assisted Living in New Rochelle, NY. The panel will discuss challenges and opportunities in Assisted Living with perspectives on the national, state and provider level. This will be an interactive presentation with time for you to ask questions.
Legal Matters:
NYSCAL’s General Counsel, Kurt Bratten from O’Connell and Aronowitz will provide the Assisted Living Legal Update, featuring the HCBS rollout.
Leadership Training:
Bambi vs. Godzilla: How to Deal with Difficult People presented by Bruce Christopher from Eden Prairie, MN. Bruce will remind us that difficult people are everywhere. Participants will learn how to stay empowered in the face of negative, reactive, and draining people, and laugh while they do it.
