Weekly Q&A
Q. Is NYSHFA | NYSCAL’s Fall Conference just for skilled nursing facility professionals?
A. Absolutely not! In fact, we have an AL-focused “Fall Education Forum” designed with assisted living in mind. While there are some sessions that overlap with your SNF colleagues (like our keynote address with AHCA/NCAL President & CEO, Clif Porter), you’ll have your own program with leading professionals presenting on the latest advances in dementia care, resident satisfaction programs, and the survey process.
Hurry though – our hotel room rate has been extended until October 20th.

Q. May facility staff remind a resident who receives assistance from the facility and who is unable to express or remember the need for a prescribed PRN or over-the-counter (OTC) medication?
A. Facility staff may remind a resident of an order for a medication that would help alleviate an expressed symptom, i.e., pain, cough, bowel irregularity, etc. Staff cannot make the determination of when to give a PRN medication. If a resident expresses a symptom, then staff can remind the resident of the medication availability and assist in accordance with the prescriber’s order.

Q. If we put a prospective employee through CHRC, and they are no longer going to work for us, how long do we technically have to terminate that employee from CHRC?
A. You should do it right away, but you have 30 days.
