Message from the Executive Director

A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal” – Steve Maraboli

The National Center for Assisted Living has established that September 11th  through September 18th is National Assisted Living Week with the theme “Compassion, Community, Caring.” National Assisted Living week provides an opportunity for your facility to reach out to residents, family, volunteers and the community to recognize assisted living and the critical role it plays in providing care to the elderly residents of New York State. It also encourages assisted living facilities to celebrate with various events for residents and their families and to provide education to the community about assisted living.

The theme “Compassion, Community, Caring” perfectly describes the actions taken by Assisted Living facility staff, especially over the last two years when the pandemic became overwhelmingly devastating to both the residents and staff. Staff went above and beyond in their duties, working tirelessly to ensure that the residents were taken care of and to keep resident lives as normal as could be.  I would like to wish you and your staff a Happy National Assisted Living Week and personally thank you for all your dedication, hard work and perseverance on behalf of New York’s frail and elderly throughout this year. While we are uncertain of what the future will bring, I am confident that we can and will prevail together. You and your staff are an inspiration and we look forward to continuing our friendships and will be here to help in any way that we can.  Again, thank you for your leadership and dedication to serving others.

Should you need assistance, please feel free to contact me (klaviolette@nyshfa-nyscal.org)  or Linda O’Connell (loconnell@nysfha-nyscal.org) at (518) 462-4800, if we can ever be of assistance.
