Reminder! The Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Quality Measures (QM) User’s Manual Version v18.0 is available along with associated files.
Updates included a re-specification of the Percent of Residents who Received an Antipsychotic Medication (Long Stay) Measure. This measure has been re-specified to include Medicare and Medicaid claims and encounter data, in addition to MDS data.
The re-specified long-stay antipsychotic medication measure will began public reporting on Care Compare on Medicare.gov in January 2026 and used 07/01/2025 – 09/30/2025 (Q3 2025) as the initial data collection period. Subsequent updates are following a quarterly schedule. Resident-level quality measure results will also be provided in iQIES.
Action Plan for Providers
To ensure your facility’s data is accurate and to protect your CMS Five-Star Quality Rating, consider the following steps:
- Monitor Preview Reports: Pull and check your Five-Star Preview reports in CMS iQIES to evaluate the measure calculation prior to any Care Compare refresh.
- Audit & Update ICD-10-CM Codes: Ensure accurate and updated coding in the electronic medical record, as the new measure relies heavily on claims data to validate exclusions for conditions like schizophrenia, Huntington’s disease, and Tourette syndrome.
- Review QM Package Reports: Regularly pull and review resident-level Quality Measure results on iQIES. Use these insights to conduct comprehensive chart audits and make necessary clinical documentation corrections.
