DOH: Surrogate Decision-Making Committee Overview 3/28/24 at 12:00 pm

The Surrogate Decision-Making Committee is an alternative to the court system available to make major medical consent decisions for people who have been served by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities or the Office of Mental Health in the past, do not have the capacity to make their own decisions, and have no authorized, available, or willing surrogate. Anyone who has received decision-making services through the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee may continue to use them even if they are discharged from an Office for People with Developmental Disabilities or program to a nursing home. For end-of-life care, the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee is available for anyone with a diagnosis of intellectual or developmental disability.

Please join the Center for Residential Surveillance and Victoria Clingan, Director of the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Surrogate Decision-Making Committee, on 03/28/2024 at 12:00pm for an overview of the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee and how it intersects with nursing homes. Pre-registration is required. Please register at: https://meetny.webex.com/weblink/register/rc8ff7fb7f6af3384ceb09c86423ecb57.
