The MDS Changes for 10/1/23 Will Be Here Soon
Here is a tip sheet to get your team prepared:
Understand the changes and updates, review your policies, and educate your teams!
- Part A– PPS Discharge and OBRA Discharge are both required and must be combined.
- ADL Flow sheets – do you have a system to capture the new information?
- Isolation coding – must be assigned a single room for at least 1 day in the 14-day lookback. Make sure it is stated that all services must be brought to the room because the resident did not leave room.
- Section G is Gone: NEW: Use Section GG – check with your software vendor to be prepared and to ensure the software developers are working on those crosswalks now.
- Care Area Assessments (CAAs) will be based on the functional status from section GG. The CAA process will not change just where the process come from will.
- Medication review change: update your data collection tools and forms to capture the information.
- Social Work: please be aware of the change from PHQ-9 to PHQ-2 – interviews take longer requiring more time needed. Update your policies.
- Communications with hospital liaisons and others to collect the updated requirements for information as appropriate.
