Purpose: Share the most current information on the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory infections with an at-risk population.

Each panelist will share their own experiences, expertise, and contributions to the development of the NYMDA COVID-19 Resource Project and the impact they have experienced with the treatment of nursing home residents. The focus of the program will be on the collaboration of the clinical experts, and highlight working directly with NYSDOH and CDC to share information with colleagues across New York State. The NYMDA Covid-19 Resource Project website will demonstrate how you can use this excellent tool for current information on vaccinations, guidance for treatment and prevention, templates for policies and procedures, and the new, practical isolation signage.

Dallas Nelson, MD CMD FACP, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of the Rochester in the Division Geriatrics and aging. She is medical director of the UR Medicine Geriatrics Group, a group that serves about 3000 patients across the spectrum of long-term care in the Rochester Metro Area.  She also serves as the medical director of a nursing home and an assisted living.  Dr. Nelson is the primary care physician for residents in across the long-term care continuum. She is the immediate past president of American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care and the New York Medical Directors Association. She is program director for the NYMDA COVID-19 Resource Grant. Dr. Nelson’s main interests are improving health care delivery to the frail older adult and educating practicing providers in geriatric medicine.

Dr. William C. Hallett, Pharm.D., MBA, BCGP, received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St.John’s University, went on to earn his Masters in Business Administration from Adelphi University, and completed his Doctor of Pharmacy studies through Shenandoah University. Most recently, Dr. Hallett was re-credentialed as a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP).  Shortly after completing his MBA, Dr. Hallett founded Guardian Consulting Services, Inc., which is dedicated to providing Consultant Pharmacist services primarily in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Group Homes for the Disabled. His team of over 100 Pharmacists currently provides clinical consultant pharmacist services for more than 50,000 patients in over 400 healthcare facilities and programs across multiple States. His company’s mission is to identify, correct, and most importantly, prevent medication misuse in healthcare settings, and in particular for our developmentally disabled and senior populations, who are often at the highest risk.

In addition to his role as CEO of his company, Dr. Hallett speaks regularly on medication use issues to audiences across the region and the country, including lecturing extensively to Physician and Nursing groups on topics such as Safe Medication Use in Geriatrics and Reducing Inappropriate Use of Psychotropic Medications in the Long Term Care Setting. In keeping with his love of teaching, Dr. Hallett has served on the faculty at Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY as a clinical instructor in Pharmacology.  Dr. Hallett has participated as a speaker for numerous professional organizations, and has been an active member of The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists since 1990.

Nicole Halsey, RN, has dedicated her 15-year nursing career to caring for patients in long-term and acute care settings. As a Regional Nurse Leader for the Hurlbut Corporation, she has leveraged her critical care and long-term care experience to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicole designed a 40-bed COVID-19 unit and monoclonal antibody treatment program that served nursing homes across Monroe County. She now assists nursing homes throughout New York State through the NYMDA COVID-19 Resource Project, aiding facilities in preventing and managing COVID-19 and other respiratory virus outbreaks. Nicole is passionate about delivering high-quality care to residents and developing interdisciplinary teams in the challenging nursing home environment. Her goal is to improve care and outcomes for the most vulnerable patient populations.
