NYS Department of Health Updates

NYSHFA|NYSCAL participated in a call with the Department of Health this week and here are a few notable points:

  • FEPA
    • For those of you downstate who are required to complete the FEPA, this is due by March 31, 2024. I will send out an addition email on this.
  • Emergency Preparedness
    • The emergency preparedness team from the DOH has been and will continue to conduct calls to communities before and during storms to assess their well-being, preparedness, and any needs they may have. Their goal is not to alarm anyone, but to provide support and help communities be proactive.
    • HCS- please ensure your points of contacts/emergency contacts are updated in HCS. You should include a cell phone number of someone who can be contacted during an emergency and the numbers provided should not be a general corporate number. During emergencies, it is crucial that the DOH is able to get ahold of someone at the building. Click HERE for instructions on how to edit contacts.
  • US Foods
    • Drivers for US Foods have gone on strike in other states across the country. There is rumor that the strike could spread. If you use US Foods, you should reach out to your local contact to ensure your deliveries will not be interrupted or delayed. You are encouraged to develop a back-up plan in case the strike moves to your area.
  • Communication from The Department of Health
    • The Department of Health has received complaints from communities expressing a lack of communication regarding new rules and regulations. Communities report that the rules are released before they receive guidance from the Department. DOH acknowledges the frustration and is actively working to address this issue.
  • Resident Council
    • The Department of Health is focusing on expectations of Resident Council. There has been no new guidance but are stressing the importance of educating your staff and residents on the council and its importance. Click HERE to view the most recent DAL 23-17.
  • Telehealth
    • The Department of Health is actively working on rolling out a new DAL that clarifies expectations for Telehealth in communities.
  • COVID
    • COVID is very active right now in nursing homes and assisted living communities. Please continue to encourage vaccinations and take all precautions to prevent the spread.
