Five Star Rating Updates

On January 27, 2021 Five-Star ratings were updated for the first time to quality and survey data during the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020. Five-Star ratings were held constant during most of 2020 to prioritize infection control efforts to prevent and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in nursing homes.

Nationally, most nursing homes (9,937 or 65%) did not see a change in their Overall Five-Star ratings. This is similarly true for Survey, Staffing, and Quality Ratings. For example, nationally 61% of nursing homes still have a 4- or 5-Star Quality rating.

The attached spreadsheet summarizes the change in Five-Star ratings for your state. See CMS’s Dec 2020 QSO Memo and January 2021 Technical Users Guide for more about this Five-Star update.
