Governor Signs Bill on Posting of SNF Quality Ratings
The Governor signed legislation (ch.336 of the laws of 2024) on Friday that NYSHFA has remained opposed to that would require skilled nursing facilities to post their ratings for health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. This is in addition to provisions already established that require posting of CMS quality ratings. NYSHFA’s bill opposition memo and letter to the Governor are attached. This law will go into effect on December 27, 2024.
While NYSHFA agrees that information should be accessible to residents and their loved ones, it is important that information is accurate, timely, pertinent, not redundant, and available in a format that is understandable to the public. Increased post-pandemic strain on facilities should not lead to over-regulation and redundant statutes that do not meaningfully advance quality across the long-term care continuum.
We will keep you apprised of any forthcoming guidance relative to this new law as it becomes available.
