Legislature Kicks Off State Budget Negotiations

On Monday, the Senate and Assembly commenced their general budget conference committee and sub-committee public meetings. Referred to in Albany as “The Mothership,” these meetings signify the beginning of the middle of the State Budget process and give the public some insight into where both Houses stand on areas of agreement and disagreement within their respective budget proposals.

The Subcommittees on both Human Services and Health met yesterday afternoon and much recognition was paid to Medicaid reimbursement rates for both skilled nursing and assisted living providers after years of stagnation. Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair of the Senate Health Committee, noted that raising Medicaid rates is the most important thing the State can do to ensure stability.

The State Budget deadline is April 1. NYSCAL will provide you pertinent updates as the State Budget process continues.
